Disaster in Japan and the Weekend for Chics.

Published: Thu, 03/17/11

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Loving. Peace and Prayers be upon our Most Beloved Prophet Muhammad, his family and fellow companions.

Assalammualaikum wr wb,

Dear ,

At the end of last week and this week we witness one of the most devastating disasters that happen in our time. As we know Japan is badly struck by the Earthquake, Tsunami and now the Nuclear problems. Hence to them its dejavu of World War 2 where two cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki was bombed backed then. Perhaps this situation could even be worse.

On Monday our editor wrote an article about this and has provided links to the various parties that are collecting funds to help in this cause.

We believe that the Mosques will also be collecting funds today during the Friday prayers. Hence we would like to urge that you donate generously.

It also seems to be an All Ladies weekend with Walk A Jog and Seminars organised just for the Ladies. Details for Selawat ke Atas Rasulullah is also out.

So , please read on for updates.

Let's rally for Japan

While many of us were counting down to the weekend, Japan experienced a 9.0 earthquake - the worst in its recorded history last Friday. Many footage like the above filled our television screens, causing not only shocks but tears from those far & near.

The Japanese meteorological agency warned that there was a 70% possibility of a magnitude 7 or greater tremor during the next three days. The tsunami warning was lifted, but warned that aftershocks could cause further waves.

The UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that at least 1,600 people were known to have died and 10,000 were missing. Almost 600,000 have been displaced, or evacuated, because of the earthquake and tsunami or radiation fears, it added. The nation is also experiencing a blackout in several areas, that could last for weeks.

Being Chic - Life Journeys of Muslim Women

Is being chic about the external facet of a woman, or really, a total state of mind? Throughout history, Muslim women around the globe have made their impact in religion, community, business and governance. However, we know too well that the road to success is fraught with challenges and uncertainties.

In this conference jointly organised by Mendaki Club and Shajr, we meet some chic Muslim women who have trodden the path of life, with all the battle scars to show for it. How did they overcome the challenges they faced? What made them rise to the occasion, and how did they do it?

It does not matter what gender you are - do join us for this truly inspirational journey, held in celebration of International Women's Day.

Coming Home Part 2

The feeling of relief did not stop there. I went home and I was so happy to see my children, Umairah, Husna and Umar.

I greeted my neighbors and say," How are you?" It was my habit as that was what my mom would always advised me to do. Be courteous and smile always to your neighbors. You wouldn't know that you might want their help some day.. It's true because I truly need their help when I was about to give birth to my son 4 years ago.

Hee hee hee... that will be another story laa ok..

Then on one of the Saturdays, my husband called me from office and would like to have date with me. Huh ?? Date?? Well ok. Here goes.

He brought me to Botanic Gardens. Yeah!! Botanic Gardens where couples like to go and date... Ha hahahaha! We sat down at one of the benches in front of this wonderful pond. He held my hand and said, " Sayang, I have a confession to make."

Then he began to tell me that on our first year of marriage till I gave birth to my 2nd child Husna, he was not faithful to me. He was too busy finding my faults and making himself busy with his work so that he will not have a chance to communicate with him.

He said that the girl is Maisurah and he had severed all ties with her as she has married one of his colleagues. He told me that he could not commit to Maisurah, that's what makes her leave him and chose another man to be her husband.

I asked him why didn't you leave me and married Maisurah instead? He said that every time that he wanted to do that he will look at my face and my 2 daughters' faces and stopped all the niat of doing it. He could not do it. He said that something is always stopping him from doing it.

When he said that, I realize the lonely nights and lonely days that I have to spend without him. I realized how much I missed him at that point of time. I pine for him. I long for him. But I did not expect him to do that.

It never crossed my mind. I truly believe that he is a good man and he always showers me with good advice and support. It's just that I was always left alone.

I struggle to make things all right with my 2 daughters, Umairah and Husna. Umairah and Husna always asked me where is their father. I will always say," Ayah is working to give us the food on the table and clothes on our back. We doa for Ayah so that Ayah is healthy and able to work ok? "

Perhaps I am too ignorant as I am too consumed of my hatred for my father that time. But I know that my husband will always be there but I never guessed that it would be like this.

"Ampunkan abang ya sayang. Ampunkan abang! Abang nampak Lin boleh maafkan abah yang bertahun buat Lin mcam-macam. Itu yg membuka mata abang. Abang tak boleh simpan lagi abang rasa amat bersalah! Ampunkan Abang!"

He clasped my hands very tightly. I did not notice that tears were running down my cheeks unchecked. The feeling of loneliness, the feeling of missing him and the feeling of neglect that was buried so long and has been on the forefront of my heart resurfaced. We were married for 9 years. Didn't that count for anything?

Must I say that I have not forgiven him? Must I say that I have to leave him due to his infidelity? Must I leave him? Must I? Must I? Must I? Ya Allah! Please help me Ya Allah!

I have no words to say to my husband at that point of time. I just free my hands and hugged him with all my might. I couldn't get enough of him before and I couldn't get enough of him now and Insya Allah in the near future. We both cried and hugged each other. We hugged and we cried so hard. Very hard till my hijab was soaked with his tears and his shirt was soaked with my tears.

At that moment, my heart was filled trickle by trickle with gratitude for Allah swt because my husband has finally come home to me. He has indeed finally come home.  I do not care anymore what is in the past as the past is in the past. Now is the time to create our own future and our own life. I knew that everything is going to be all right.

I learnt a lot of things in the Coffee Conversations Club with Harasha.

"Learn to let go and you will be set free."

Thank you Harasha, Nora, Norshahriyah, Ridjal, Sue, Fadzuli and Azlan.  Not forgetting the dear giraffe. Hee hee hee... Thank you for setting me free and help me to set a new course of my life. It makes me a better mother, daughter, daughter-in-law, neighbor and colleague. Coffee Conversations with Harasha REALLY ROCKS YOUR LIFE! That is where miracles are produced ... Right Harasha?

Amin,

Hazelinda

--- end ---

Recently we started this group in Facebook to reignite a past project that never got started. This project is just about sharing our gratitude towards Allah swt.

So with the recent changes in Facebook technology, we realised the group functions to allow the community to share commentaries, photos and videos is quite amazing.

Hence we restarted this project. Do visit www.projectsyukran.com. Please request to be added to the group.

We may share inspiring Syukran stories here from week to week. Insyallah.
