The Islamic Finance For All (IFFA) Conference has taken the industry by storm and registered participants are eagerly anticipating a unique and special conference. Read on to find out more about these two prominent figures in the world of Islamic Finance.

Dato' Fadzli was the founding CEO of Malaysia's first takaful operator, Takaful Malaysia. Before that, he was a member of the Special Task Force Committee set up by the Malaysian Government to formulate the regulatory and market framework for the takaful industry in Malaysia.

 

His contributions to global Islamic finance included providing primary assistance in establishment of takaful operators in Brunei, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia. As founder chairman of Asean Takaful Group, he established the foundation for technical and business cooperation among the regional Takaful operators.

 

Takaful Malaysia established its subsidiary, Asean Retakaful International (L) Ltd (ARIL), the world's first full-fledged dedicated retakaful company. Under his chairmanship from 1997 to 2005 ARIL has transformed itself into a global-based retakaful Company that offers retakaful services to more than 40 takaful operators across the globe.

Tn. Wan Abdul Rahim Kamil currently serves as an Islamic Capital Market consultant with the Securities Commission (Malaysia's Capital Market regulatory authority) where he advises and helps formulate and develop the regulatory as well as market framework for the the Islamic capital market industry in Malaysia.

 

He was a pioneer at Bank Islam from 1983 to 2003. Tn. Wan Rahim is personally credited with several of the Islamic finance innovations such as Rahnu (for Islamic 'pawnshops'), Murabahah Notes Issuance Facility (MuNIF) commercial papers, Islamic bonds (Sukuk) issued under the contracts of Musharakah, Qardhul Hasan and Bai' Bithaman Ajil (BAIDS) and the first Islamic Asset-Backed Securities (ABS).

 

Tn. Wan Rahim has been a consultant for Egypt Financial Services and the United States Agency for International Development (or USAID) in the development of the sukuk and bond markets. He is a regular contributor to the Islamic Banker, an internationally-distributed monthly publication on Islamic finance.

 

He also holds a post-graduate degree from the International Institute of Islamic Banking and Economics, Republic of Northern Cyprus. Wan Rahim is currently an Academic Fellow at Kolej Universiti Insaniah, Kedah Darul Aman, Malaysia.

 

 

These two speakers are innovative and dynamic personalities and had contributed greatly to the development of Islamic Finance in Malaysia, which is now widely considered the most developed Islamic Finance market in the world. They faced unprecedented challenges and ventured bravely into uncharted territories.
